Our approach
Conceptual model linking stressors, scales and ecosystem responses addressed in MARS
Multifactorial experiments at the water-body level, addressing unexplored stressor combinations using new #experimental facilities.
Sixteen case studies at the river basin scale, in which we model multiple stressor effects on ecological status and ecosystem services. This is done by combining models which target e.g. flow and nutrients with models targeting biota.
Exploring large-scale data to understand how different stress combinations (e.g. higher water temperature and nutrients) impact on water resources, on ecological status and on ecosystem services. In particular, we target environmental flows, large rivers, lakes and fish.
Building "tools": predictive models, a wiki on our results and software to calculate how stressors affect rivers and lakes, and how to restore them.
